I don't think
SEO should ever be ignored. With some quality posts/pages, a clever .htaccess file, and slight HTML manipulation, any site can be
SEO friendly.
Karadawn does have a valid point about the mailing suggestion... new sites with no traffic don't have a mailing list. So
SEO, blog promotion, etc are good places to start.
And I think that blogging is a form of
SEO in itself. Those pages are linking to the promotional domain and are counted for link popularity. Even if not for the LP, people are
searching blogs and finding your articles.
Once you do get your website established, however, having a mailing list is an invaluable method to "remind" your visitors to come back and see "what's new." There's also no shame in plugging your other properties, either.
Do be aware that even the most scrubbed of double-optin lists will generate spam complaints. As a hypothetical, if you were to get your company flagged as a spam entity (which is quite easy nowadays), expect the anti-spam groups to not just blacklist your domain, but every domain you've registered. That can put quite a damper on your ambition!
By no means am I saying not to mail your customers/visitors... but do try to curb your enthusiasm when it comes to sending that list every day. Do your mailings only when you have a quality message to send, and I don't recommend more than twice per week. I do mine on early AM Tuesday and early AM Thursday. That gives the readers Tuesday/Wed to check mail. And Thurs/Friday to see my next mailing. Should you mail too late in the week, most of your mails are destined for the 50+ messages everyone receives when they check their mail on Monday.
Very nice comments / suggestions in this thread so far
