Increasing PR? - 01-10-2007

What are some great ways to increase the PR of my website? I have read about blogging and search engines and such, but is there anything more that can be done.

I know there is no quick fix, but how long can it take to go up for example from a 3 to a 5?

All comments are appreciated!

Re: Increasing PR? - 01-11-2007

There is no such thing as a bad incoming link. Google operates on the idea that you have control over who you link to, but not who links to you. So even sites with PR's of 0 linking to you won't hurt your PR. However, if you link out to such sites, then you're hurting your Google reputation (PageRank). Try to do effective link exchanges and be very mindful of both your incoming and outgoing links for quality. In all likelihood, the PR calculation never reaches zero, so even the worst of links coming in to you will count for something positive to your pagerank.

I recommend adoing 3-way link exchanges. These can be more difficult to set up, but you're protecting yourself when Google does away with counting traded links for PR. *I am of the opinion that this already takes place to some degree.*

Time also seems to be a factor in your PR. The older and more established your site, the more likely you are to have good PR. You can't control the time factor, but be ever mindful to not drastically restructure your site or move around directories. If you absolutely must move directories or domains, be sure to 301 redirect the pages to their new locations.

The structure of your site is also contributory. Try to have pages no more than 2 directories deep, with each and every page linking back to the front page in some fashion.

Last, if you're not submitting your site to Google via a sitemap, I recommend you get setup to do so. At a minimum, you're letting Google know which of your pages you deem as most significant.

Thanks for the advice. I will have to look into three-way linking. Do you think that the Google PR may not even matter? I have read that it is not as important as many people think that it is. Infact, sites with lower PR have higher results in google searches. To that you could almost say that the PR was irrelevant. What do you think?

Re: Increasing PR? - 01-11-2007

I think PR is unimportant. As you say sites with low PR can be positioned better in the serp's than high pr sites. Yes pr is related to incoming links, but that is what you need to concentrate on - incoming links. Dont worry about leaking pr away from your site or any of this type of thing.
unintentionally but fortunately for the big G, pr keeps Google on the lips of many, many webmasters and people in the world of seo. It is a "front" for what is really important in optimisation. Dont get carried away with pr. Remain gaining quality links and yes your pr will increase, but there is no need to keep a careful eye on your pr. If that is what you are interested, yes it will increase over time BUT surely serp's are far more important?

Google does control a lot of traffic, but they are only one engine on a long list of major search engines. If you operate your site normally, pagerank will come with time. I think you will find that PR is not related to your number of daily visitors as much as you might think.

Re: Increasing PR? - 01-12-2007

Have you thought about directory submissions? Directories are a great way to gain non reciprocal (one way) links to your website and allow you to choose the anchor text that is used in the links. Therefore if you are selling "blue widgets" from your website, the directories allow the anchor text "buy blue widgets" and that will point to your site. This is a very important factor in increasing your websites position in the serp's for desired keywords.

I can manually submit your website to seo friendly directories, and provide a submission report:

100 directories $30
200 directories $55
500 directories $99
100 directories a month for 6 months $149
100 niche directories $79
