Lifespan of a website - 11-26-2004

I dont know what type of users are using this forum currently, i.e, veterans to affiliate marketing versus newly born webmasters. I have something I would like to comment on about the lifespan of a website and how to get it going if dont have the money to launch a big campaign. Let me know what you think. In my searches, I have uncovered a wealth of information. Being a new, yet very dedicated, webmaster now, I have been doing I guess what is called a survival tactic. Since I am stuck between working a real job full time, and putting in about 8-10 hours a day (sometimes more) working on my website, I am almost forced to find ways of promoting it that cost no money. I am not talking about group room postings or chat postings. First of all that cheapens your work, and second, it is just a waste of time. What about free classified ads sites? There are a ton of them out there, and some even have incentives for bringing in new business. I know some of these sites unfortunately are dumpsites for affiliate links, as they are posted on almost all the pages, some are even the same company, with different users. Anyways, does anyone think this is effective? I know personally, when I am on those type of sites, I look for the URL's unassociated with another company. Doing the obvious math here, if you are a member of 100 of those sites, can you essentially spread your website awareness to a couple thousand or so who are potentially looking for what you are offering? Or does this again, cheapen your work, and is it a waste of time?

Hello bryson, Welcome to the Forum here. That is a great question about classified ads sites, My thoughts on this method is that based on several different ways on how this feature can help or harm your business. As Sometimes these classified Ad services use the FFA(Free for all) link feature or use spam techniques among other sites which in my opinion leads to spam and or useless traffic. However there are good Classified Ad services online, However you really need to be careful if it's free. I would say yes for the Yellow Pages. Which of course it's not free. I do not use any free classified services or free services(except the SEO marketing in the engines) however If you do want to do free classified sites I would get a Classified php script and host it on your site and use your own site to advertise special sections of your sites. Just an Idea that may be beneficial to your site with getting more traffic.

Thats a great idea! I know where to get the scripts, so I think I may look into that a little later after the core content is written and published. Thanks!
