One of the most effective and lowest cost ways to promote yourself/product/service/website is with the huge social networks (ie: Myspace, Facebook , Digg, etc.) I have had impressive success with this, but it took some practice. There are defiantly right ways and wrong ways to promote on these networks and I suggest you study before you just dive in.
Below are a few Social Networks not many know about that are getting good results. I highly suggest creating pages on each of these:
