Affiliate Directories: Does anyone check them out? - 11-13-2004

Affiliate Program Directories used to be very big a while back. Do "modern era" affiliates go to Affiliate Directories to find programs? If not, how do you find programs?

I kinda go with a little bit of everything. I sometimes look in directories, especially if I'm looking for a specific type of program (like two-tiered or whatever). Most often I browse through the directories of the affiliate management companies I belong to like CJ, LinkShare, etc, since if I find something there I don't have to sign up for anything new. However, If I'm looking for a program for a specific item or area I'll go with a Google search. Like, if I want to market movie posters I would search for "movie posters"+"affiliate program" and see what comes up.

In conclusion, I use a combination approach and generally find what I want.

I'm with Jason on this one, I do look in directories sometimes but I usually go into google and do a google search or search the webmaster news feeds or this forum :0) for any new programs.

There is a directory out there at 2-tier.com It hasnt been updated in a long time, but it is good for finding 2 tier affiliate programs. The site is slow, and the links are all about dead, but you can see who is using multi tier programs. It would have been a great site if it was maintained.

I think there's a big need for an aggregated directory of affiliate programs, and I'd be happy to take any suggestions to make mine more useful for everybody.

If you are looking for an independent merchant affiliate program for a particular item or product line, search for that item(s) on BizRate.

Then visit the merchant sites to see if they have an affiliate program. Many of them do.
