Affiliate Links and PPP on Blogs - 12-16-2006

Has anyone encountered blog account termination for placing affiliate links or for posting PayPerPost blog entries?

I signed up with PPP yesterday only to realize that many people's blog accounts are being monitored by the blog service providers.

In the most recent news, I've heard of WordPress removing PPP for blogs hosted on *WordPress's* website.

WordPress doesn't have a problem if you PPP on your own domain and host. But they are PHP based and I don't know PHP. I know JSP so, I definitely can't use WordPress on my website.

I like Yahoo's 360 blog, and created a new blog there. But now I'm worried about adding affiliate links on Yahoo 360.

Yahoo doesn't specifically say they don't allow affiliate links or PPP, so it's a bit confusing.

But I guess I will write to Yahoo and find out if they permit occasional PPP or affiliate links on 360 blog.

Their TOS keep on changing also, I find it a bit risky to use 3rd party blogs.

But PPP requires a blog style website so they can verify the date of creation of the blog etc.

Hi Light,

PPP is a great service, but there are a few things I'd recommend if you're going to post affiliate links and write paid posts.

First of all, get your own blog on your own domain and build it up.

WP's free blogs no longer allow for affiliate links or paid posts. They slammed the doors on us affiliates without warning or the offer to remove the links ... just said you violated the TOS.

WP's move has less to do with TOS violations, although that's the justification, and more to do with getting their shit out of Google's wrath.

WP owner hired himself a workerbee and used the WP platform to his advantage to get income to pay for his workerbee. Google had given him great PR and WP had taken advange of it in ways that pissed off Google.

To appease the great Google god, WP is swinging the pendulum the other way now.

Thanks for the reply Bobbie and for the great suggestion too.

It's sad how they just shut things down w/o warning or giving a chance to improve or ammend things especially when legal TOS are too generic and confusing to read.

From what you say, WP is another example of those who put themselves first.

I signed up on the PPP forum, and over there they discuss which free blogging platforms allow and don't allow PPP.

I was interested in Yahoo 360 since their interface is fun to use and it had many features, PPP also mentioned that so far Yahoo doesn't have a problem with PPP.

But like you said, relying on free blogging platforms is a big risk and hosting a blog on ones own domain is much better as it doesn't waste the time and effort we put on PPP.

So I've decided to integrate this open source blogging platform known as Pebble
SourceForge.net: Pebble

I don't know if there are any other blogging software for JSP platform that are as good or better than Pebble, so I'm going to stick with Pebble for now.
