There are times when creating a site that it makes sense to use internet frames, and in some of these cases it might make sense to have the affiliate advertiser's site come up in a frame leaving some of the affiliate's branding and navigation behind. An example might be how the drop down box works at
www.loan-center.us, although not a great looking site, you can see that when you select a loan company from the drop down box, the header remains so you can quickly and easily move between merchants.
In testing some of these situations, we have found that IE 7's default privacy settings (medium) prevent the 1st party cookies from some of the advertisers from displaying because these advertisers haven't implemented a compact privacy policy on their websites.
In those scenarios, the sites functions that rely on cookies often malfunction, preventing the customer from searching for products, booking reservations, or adding items to their shopping cart.
Implanting a compact privacy policy isn't overly difficult, and there are many sites that will ask a few questions and give the merchant the necessary code to implement. Microsoft has a good resource page which explains
how to deploy compact privacy policies.
As browsers become "smarter" it is important for merchants to keep up with the technology to provide the privacy and security information that the browsers need to make sure their sites continue to function 100% in all scenarios.
