UC2007 Presentation and Notes - 05-03-2007

I can’t write I’m just back from MySQL Users Conference both because I’m still in USA visiting customers and because it has ended almost a week ago but I was too busy to write anything about it or post my presentations.
This was my 5th MySQL Users Conference so I met a lot of good friends and spend more time speaking to people when expected (even though still did not speak to everyone I wanted to) and less time attending the sessions.
The Conference was solid and interesting this year while it was not so strictly organized as before. For example even though there suppose to be “Session Buddies” they did not show up on my sessions and on one of them I had to myself remind to Jim Starkey he was 10 minutes into my talk already. The fact all rooms were about the same size was also a problem - many interested sessions were jam packed while other rooms were empty. It is surely exciting to speak with standing audience but I’d prefer everyone could get convenient seat.
The Exhibition floor was rather commercial this year (No surprise here) with most companies I knew long ago already. Few products caught my attention but I shall write later about these.
The general topic for the conference this year was “Storage Engines” - There were talks about PBXT, Falcon, Innodb, NDB, Solid, NitroDB, ScaleDB as well as related to storage engine design.
As usually MySQL would save some major announcement for the conference. This time it was announcing partnership with IBM to use some parts of special DB2 as MySQL storage engine. I was not following it too much as it relates to some exotic platform and so would not affect most MySQL users, it may bring a lot of money to MySQL Inc though.
Now regarding my presentations. I had 3 presentations this year excluding contributors lightning talks. I’ve now published PDFs for these:
MySQL Server Settings Tuning

MySQL Performance Cookbook

Innodb Performance Optimization
Last one was presented by me and Heikki together which was fun. I wish however I would taken Heikki’s pace into account better as we could not complete full presentation in time.
I also created list of topics and sessions to blog about which I’ll try to find a time to do.
