Revenge of the Spam - 01-17-2007

Hi everyone,

Fed-up with all the spam mail that's flooding your inbox?Well,a friend of mine,Craig Peri has found a funny & unorthodox way of dealing with them and just thought I should share this with all of you. It's so simple no one would've thought of it.Get ready....(insert dramatic drumroll here)here it is:

Spam them back.

Yes.That's it.His secret:He simply showed them a them a business that is far better than them having to make money by sending people emails. And 3 of them actually signed up for some of his networks, plus, a lot of the spamming has stopped.

I just couldn't stop laughing when I first found out about this.I don't know about you but I don't see any harm in trying.

Most spammers are going to just upload a list of a few million emails, hit the send button, and walk away. Most also won't have legitimate or answered reply-to email addresses. If it is answered, it is most likely reviewed by a bot that just goes through and removes any "complainers." It's a myth that you should never reply to emails because you're validating the email address for them... invalid email addresses bounce. Good ones don't.

If you're getting spammed, there's a very good chance an emailer will remove you if you reply with "remove." If it's spam related to stock picks, viagra, HGH, etc... don't even bother trying to get yourself removed. Thunderbird does a pretty good job of filtering out junk mail, as does Gmail.

Also, do be careful about your "subscription plan." For example, I own freepass.com and spammers like to send out adult emails with the return address as free AT freepass DOT com. Clearly these emails aren't sent by me, but I get to handle all the remove and 'go f yourself" emails. I don't even bother anymore because most people don't understand that reply-to email addresses can be faked.

Let's say you got one of these emails and saw it came from free@freepass.com. If you knowingly send unsolicited email to me (as revenge) and ignore my remove requests, I'd be able to sue you for damages. You'd be thinking you were getting back at the spammer and you're really attacking an innocent party.

Huh, a great idea and it's demise...

It seems really exciting to me at first....

But I don't think, that trying to unsubscibe is such a good idea, it is a difference, if an email adress is actively used, or not, even if the amils don't bounce back.

If someone answers a email, that it has a higher value, because it shows, that the owner is concerned about it. He wouldn't be concerned about it, if the adress wouldn't be important to him.
So email traders can sell such "answering" adresses at a higher price...and so you would get even more spam, no?
