Optimizing Your Website for Yahoo - 02-20-2007

Yahoo is one of the oldest search engines that exist on the Internet. It is popular, accurate and known to offer the best possible results to the visitors. With the advent of Google, people were attracted to its non-debatable precise search results. However, the fact still remains that Google is not the only search engine and that around 20-25% searches are still conducted on Yahoo. MSN is another player in this field and some portion of the search results is contributed by this search engine too.

Most SEO experts have been burning the midnight oil to make a research on optimizing techniques for Google. However, with Yahoo contributing to a huge proportion of the search results, on the Internet, these experts cannot afford to optimize only for Google. They require to take the other two engines in to consideration, in this regard.

Most SEO experts have been burning the midnight oil to make a research on optimizing techniques for Google. However, with Yahoo contributing to a huge proportion of the search results, on the Internet, these experts cannot afford to optimize only for Google. They require to take the other two engines in to consideration, in this regard.

The fact that is troubling SEO professionals these days, is that optimizing for all the three search engines at the same time is not a cakewalk. With yahoo the task has been more complicated. Here, the SEO community was inclined to think that the algorithm of yahoo was on deliberately just the contrary of what the Google algorithm was. The reason was that the webpages that ranked well in Google did not do so in Yahoo and vice versa. Hence the attempt to optimize a website for both the search engines was a hard nut to crack.

It is true that algorithm of the two search engines is distinct from each other, and it is quite impossible to be sure about the actual difference. This is because both are consistently in a transformation phase and none of them is made publicly available by its authors and the description about the way each of the algorithms function are achieved on the basis of speculation that is based on probe-trial tests for particular keywords.

Knowing some of the basic differences between the two would definitely help to achieve better ranking.

The Yahoo and Google Algorithm differences
Yahoo spiders the pages on the web and indexes them in its database. Google proceeds via various mathematical operations in order to produce the pages for search results.

There is a great difference in terms of keyword placing in title in Yahoo and Google.

Yahoo is a directory for submissions in first place and then a search engine.
