no follow use? - 04-14-2008

Hi all,

I have been told to use the no follow tags... i have a couple of questions about this.

1) how does this work?
2) where should one implement this and why?
3) If one doesnt vs Does what kind of a Ranking difference is one looking at?
4) How does one implement this?
5) anything else that needs to be implemented with the nofollow command?
6) what exactly is the command itself "ie" "no=follow" etc

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in answering your questions.

Google considers almost every incoming link to a site as a "vote" for that site. They pay careful attention to the linking text, among other factors. Due to this, many unscrupulous webmasters surf the internet spamming comments on blogs and other locations that allow un-moderated posts.

No follow tags are notifications to search engine spiders to not crawl certain links found on your site. As a blog owner, I can configure my site to automatically attach nofollow tags to the links left in comments so that such spammers don't benefit from my site linking to theirs.

An example of a nofollow link is:
Code:

Visit my <a href="http://www.example.com/" rel="nofollow">discount pharmaceuticals</a> site.
Google has a nice blog post that discusses nofollow tags in detail and their actions to limit comment spam.

Search engine doesn't pass Page Rank with "No Follow" tags.

even then it is helpful in putting your website high in SERPs.Most of the bloggers configure "No Follow" tags to attach automatically with the links.Even then it is helpful to increase high search engine results position.
