Adding your site to free web directories
Adding your site to your email and forum sigs
Giving stuff away for free with your sites link attached
Writting articles and putting your sites link in your authors resource box
Writting a press release
Etc....

I have been marking online for almost 3years now. Spent thousands marketing ( adwords ) and finding it harder these days as the competition gets tougher.

i am spending lesser these days but my traffic has increases trememdously. When write article, reuse the article (with some minor changes) for your blog, article directory, opt in list etc etc.

A good way to get promote your website is to utilise Free Press Release services. There's a great list over at - Inside SEO with Mr SEO » Blog Archive » List of sites to submit your press release to for free.

Setting up affiliate program too can contribute lots of traffic. I've tried for few of my programs.

Another one is to set up an automatic link exchange on your site with php link manager. Sometimes you can get higher PR website link to yours.

Here are a couple of methods that i use

1. Forums - Make sure that the forum allows you to put your website in your signature. Also make sure what you are promoting is beneficial to the members of that particular forum. For example if you are promoting Vertical Jump products to improve your jumping ability in basketball,you might want to join NBA Basketball forums and discuss basketball with your website in your signature.

If you really have budget constraints: posting in forums, SE and directories submissions, email marketing, etc. Only problem with this is you don't exactly target your desired market (aside for forum posting on your niche).

Earning from a business would also invovle spending for it. If you have the budget, you may tryout buying link backs, PPC, banner ads, etc. You get more exposure this way. ;)
