Michael Kimsal talks today about his quest for a better fitting IDE for his PHP development, mentioning one in particular - the Eclipse plugin (PHP Developer Tool) for working specifically with PHP.

It's come quite a long way, and is usable. I'm starting a new small demo project today as a testbed, and we'll see how it goes. The introspection for code complete is decently fast, the editor as a whole is also moderately quick, and I'm actually impressed. Having seen so many mediocre attempts in the open source world at this task, I'm really impressed.

The PDT project is working towards providing a PHP Development Tools framework for the Eclipse platform. This project will encompass all development components necessary to develop PHP and will facilitate extensibility. It will leverage the existing Web Tools Project in providing developers with PHP capabilities.
