I have had a lot of success with submitting to directories to:
1. Get my site indexed if it is new
2. Rank for key phrases (up to medium competitiveness)
3. Gain PageRank

I am new to this forum, and I wanted to make clear that talking about this is in my interest, since I was part of creating the most popular software for making a directory (Home :: php Link Directory also known as phpLD).

I would love to know a little about your experiences submitting to directories, and even with running a directory (if you have one).

Getting listed in DMOZ and paying for a listing is Yahoo is a free pass out of the Google sandbox from my experience.

Interesting. I have never heard that, but I don't dispute it either.

it is new for me but I would like to ask:
You should get listed to Yahoo and Dmoz
or
just one of them.
As you know sandbox take ONE year to pass out of the Google sandbox, but it can take 10 years to get indexed into DMOZ.

It may be a free pass out, but there is a higher chance of you getting out of the Google sandbox quicker than what you will get a listing into Dmoz.

I've been waiting for over 4 years now for my sites. I just don't bother with it anymore.
