5 Common Internet Marketing Mistakes You Should Avoid. - 01-31-2008

I don’t know how many times I have read people recommend these marketing methods to people on forums, but in my book, they are about some of the most time wasted marketing methods I have ever heard of doing.
So, I’m going to tell you about them and why they are stupid!
Article Submitting
Unless you have not been on a forum or ready many blogs, you probably have already heard countless people tell you, when it comes to marketing your product and growing links, that article submitting to places like ezinearticles.com is the best way to build links.
Truthfully its complete bull! For starters you’re always left with dupe content, and low quality links that have little to no traffic.
Yes… I know a couple people have gotten slick and used some software to mix the content up, but what is it really worth when you’re putting crap articles out that your grandmother can’t even read.
You will never build a brand with that, nor beat the people that are building links the right-way in the first place, and is why most don’t get past the $500 dollar income level that most webmasters live on because of marketing methods like this that are recommend every day.
Digging, Stumbling, & MySpacing
If article submitting is not your thing, then maybe you like to stumble around the internet, however once more this is like running fully clothed down a football field with a sign in your hands with only a couple people in the stadium watching, and you’re the 1,000 person to run by in the last 10 minutes.
Don’t spend your time or money Digging yourself, or having others do it for you. The traffic is low quality, and if you built the right product your users would be doing the Diging for you for free while you had other things to worry about other than the lat 5 DigBates you just did.
Link Trading & Link Submitting
This is soo 1995, don’t even thing about it. If you do, you better put in that application at McDonalds!
Pumping Press Releases
Press releases are good, IF you are publicly traded company, IF you did a study that showed smoking gave you super powers, or something else that Forbes, or the Times would want to write about. If not, save your money for a paid review on a good blog!
Giving Away Money!
Giving away money never really works for anyone, but yet we still do it, including myself. If you feel giving away money is going to get that new site off the ground, its not.
Money only cements the deal with your current users, makes them come around longer, and maybe, just maybe they will tell 3 of their new friends in the next year about your cool site. Giving away money won’t make you a lot of traffic, in fact most contest will only get you 0 more customer!
Now What?
I know you just want to know what are the right things to do, however its 14 minutes to closing here so you get to wait till next week before I tell the good stuff. And no, it’s not some new fangled SEO microwave link building machine!
If you cant wait, go beyond the link building, go beyond the labor, and go beyond Google, then all your links, customers, and whatever else you want will come naturally as you played by Google’s rules and never built any links in the first place, but yet you rank where you wanted in the search engines!
