As a webmaster Im really into subscription and affiliate programs. I like to sell subscription based advertising, tools, etc then up-sale my customers with affiliate programs.
With that I need to process credit cards. So I use a handful of merchant accounts and 3rd party billing companies so that I have a variety of services that can easily fit my needs for whatever service I want to build.
Over the years I have seen credit card companies double charge customers, not charge customers, as well as lose an account here and their when they had some data problems.
Stuff like that is well expected and just something you have to live with, but one of the things you never expect your credit card processor to do is send a recipe to your customer for your order and plug in some other persons website that’s a porn site, when you NEVER do adult services.
Last week one of my processors that I will keep unnamed for now sent out a bunch of emails to customers thanking them for signup to our site, and then proceeded to tell them it was owned by some other porno site..
Now I do NOT do adult services, but because of the processor telling my customers my site was owned by some porno site, my customers started dropping like flies then sending me endless emails giving me a bit of their mind. When I attempted to explain to the customers what had happen they would not believe me, not even after I told my processor to send me an official letter telling my customers they had an error in their system.
After a week I have managed to get everything (mostly) back under control, and I have now dumped that processes and put a new processor in their place. And yes I am in contact with our lawyer about taking action on the processor that sent out that email to my customers because we have been dealt a deathblow by them giving out false information to our customers.
