One of my pet peeves is the “Content is King” myth. Some jackass (Bill Gates, actually) said it once and every webmaster and
SEO wanna-be is parroting it ever since.
Content simply is not “king”. You can put 100,000 pages of unique content online and not get 500 unique visitors a day. Being in the
web hosting business, I know. I’ve seen websites with absolutely obscene numbers of pages, all unique, which drive less than 100 unique visitors a day.
Links determine search engine rankings more than anything on a web page.
Links and anchor text are king if you’re talking about
SEO.
Conversions are king if you’re talking about marketing.
